Data breaches are making headlines, affecting companies like Apple, Bank of America, and Target. Responding to requests from healthcare facilities and device companies, Settrax is boosting security measures with tougher password requirements and Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
What is Two-Factor Authentication? 2FA combines "something you know" (your password) with "something you have" (your mobile device) to enhance security. While passwords can be stolen, stealing both a password and a phone is much harder. 2FA significantly reduces the risk of security breaches and is becoming a standard for online services.
Why Authy? After evaluating several 2FA services, we chose Authy for its user-friendly process and suitability for hospital environments. Authy is an industry leader in 2FA.
Settrax is live with Two-Factor Authentication. When you log into your Settrax account you will be asked to link your mobile device to your phone.
How to Set Up 2FA with Settrax:

- Download Authy: Available on iPhone and Android devices.
- First Login:
- Confirm your mobile number when prompted. NOTE: It should be the same phone number used when signing up for a Settrax account
- Verify Authy account using the code sent through SMS or voice message
- Authy will generate the Settrax token
- Log in to Settrax then enter the token into the Authy field.
- Subsequent Logins:
- Open the Authy app on your phone to generate the token.
- Log in to Settrax and enter the token into the Authy field.
Note: If the phone number associated to your Authy and Settrax account are different, you won’t be able to sync accounts. Contact Settrax Support (support@settrax.com / 866.900.0375) to update your phone number.
FAQs:
Q: What if I don’t have my cell phone in Settrax?
A: You will need to log into Settrax and update your account with your correct cell phone number or call customer support for help.
Q: Do I need the internet to get the token? Some areas of a hospital don’t have cell service.
A: No the token is not dependent on an internet connection.
Q: Can I use multiple devices to generate the token?
A: No you will need to register one device to generate tokens for Settrax.
Q: What happens if I lose my phone?
A: You will need to register your new device by calling Settrax customer support.
Q: Can I not use two-factor authentication?
A: Implementing two-factor authentication was a decision made in collaboration with hospitals and device companies and is not optional.
Q: How much time will this add during login?
A: Generally 5-10 seconds. The token regenerates every 20 seconds
Q: What if my phone number changes can I link my Authy code to a new phone number?
A: Yes! There are limitations however, you can only change the phone number associated with your Authy code a max of 3 times in a month.
Q: Where can I get more help with Authy?
A: Authy offers a great help section to answer more of your Authy App specific questions. You can access that information by going to https://authy.com/help/ .
Q: Will my courier need to use this 2FA?
A: No! Because courier logins generate a 4 digit code specific to the case, Couriers already have an identifier specific to them.
